Waco, TX 76707
Here are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.
How do I qualify for the Grace House program?
- Have a drug or alcohol addiction
- Be a woman at least 18 years old
- Cannot be pregnant or have children in your custody (must have someone that they can stay with for the year you are in the program)
Do you accept women coming out of prison?
Yes, women are free to apply to our program while they are in prison, and once they are released they can check our availability. We do not allow women to parole out to Grace House, but once they are on probation we are willing to help with that process as well. To apply from prison, send a letter to the Antioch address above, and make sure to include “Grace House” in the address.
Can I still see my kids and family while I am in Grace House?
Women in our program cannot call, visit, or receive letters from family members for the first 30 days of the program. After that we will do our best to facilitate phone calls and visits as frequently as our schedule allows, especially with children.
Is there a waiting list?
There is a waiting list for entry into the Grace House program. Once you submit an application, you will be placed on that waiting list. Then, you MUST contact the Grace House weekly to check in to remain on the list. When you are next on the waiting list, we will schedule an interview with our directors. If you are then accepted into the program, you will be given a date for entry into the Grace House.
I have a lot of medical issues. Can I still be in the program?
We understand that many women with substance addictions also have medical needs, and while we strive to serve as many women as possible, we are not a medical facility. Please feel free to apply, and if our program is not the best fit for your medical needs, then we will do our best to refer you to a more appropriate program.
Do I need to live in Waco?
Residency in Waco or McLennan County is not a requirement. However, due to a lack of long-term programs in the Central Texas region, women from this area (McLennan County in particular) will have priority on the waiting list. Women from outside the Central Texas area are still welcome to apply to our program.
I have a family member that needs help. How do I get them into your program?
At Grace House we firmly believe that a woman has to be committed to recovery for it to have the power to change her life. While we are so thankful that you want to step in and fight for your family member, if they aren’t ready to change we won’t be able to help them. A woman must go in person to fill out an application and complete the application while on site, which takes about 30-45 minutes.
